We were in Krabi and Ao Nang, Thailand, in October 2017. There are lots of attractions in the Krabi province, but the one you should really try out is the four island tour. We saw Thap, Chicken, Poda, and Phanang Islands.
Initially, we were sceptical whether we should to the tour as there are some attractions that are hyped up but turn out not to be too impressive (Emerald Pool, looking at you). We were also a bit worried about our 3 and 6-year-olds being able to withstand such a trip (from 8 AM to 2 PM). Once we saw the first island, we knew we would have been very sorry if we wouldn’t take this trip. The experience was very… can’t even find the proper word for it. It’s unbelievable that the islands look at least as good in real life as they do on the postcards. The experience is made even nicer by the warm water and the sand on most beaches. Enjoy the clip about our experience below.
Practical tips if you’re travelling with toddlers and kids:
* The official price for adults is around 1200 Baht per person + you have to pay the National Parks Fee of 400 Baht per person (200 for a child).
* Consider getting a private boat. It gives so much more flexibility and you can adjust the trip to the family’s needs and whims, like staying longer in a place to play. We got our boat for 2000 baht through a local fisherman. The total cost was 3000 Baht, as everyone has to pay the National Parks Entry fee.
* When it comes to paying for kids in sightseeing objects, there’s a strong arbitrary element at play; sometimes we have to pay for the oldest child, very rarely for both of them, and there are times when kids go free.
* Mandatory preparation: take lots of sunscreen, drinking water and at least some food. It’s only possible to buy supplies on Poda island (at a tourist surcharge) and the offer was limited.
